A Family of Objects Exploring the Ritual of Drink Making
February 2012
“We will produce a series of vessels that pertain to the ritual of drinking, including a pitcher, an ice bucket, and glasses, as well as a serving tray.” Finding inspiration
in the raw ingredients of new potatoes, we will draw upon the unfiltered material qualities of wood, glass and metal. “We will attempt to identify a spontaneous process of making decisions by hand that is balanced with a logic of design that is suitable for unique repetition.”
Most important to this project is the object of a mortar & pestle, used for grinding pepper to bring out the flavor of the new potatoes. The mortar & pestle highlights a drawn out, rustic approach to the ritual of drink making and the limited intervention between perfectly fresh ingredients.
